Brokers of Plenty is an oddball masquerade of sacred tricksters. The choreography blends elements of carnivalistic parades and guising that draws from the Finnish pre-christian “kekripukki”. A demonic human-animal hybrid - a character that has been present simultaneously in different carnival traditions around the world. Brokers of Plenty searches for the joy of embodying death, birth and the unpredictability of nature. Something that is on the outskirts of the “civilized” society, but haunts our everyday lives.

At Drifts festival, the performance is structured as a ritual by the sea. The ocean and it’s depths are seen as a bountiful source of myth, a living organism and a site of human waste. This masquerade of grotesque figures worship this abundance and exorcise the spirits within.

Bio

Brokers of Plenty creates an otherworldly and psychedelic ritual at Öljysäiliö 468 and it’s surroundings, by combining the artistic languages of Finnish choreographer Mikko Niemistö (www.mikkoniemisto.com), Indian-American electroacoustic composer Nordra (www.nordra.net), Finnish costume designer and visual artist Siru Kosonen and Finnish spatial and lighting designer Sofia Palillo. The piece is performed by multifaceted dancers Anniina Dyster, Tuure Kaukua, Maya Oliva, Sointu Saraste and Tuuli Vahtola. Performer Geoffrey Erista is also part of the process but he will join the working group in 2027.
