MASTERPLAN is the first prototype of a performance exploring urban planning, its relationship to law, and the fragmentation of the body. MASTERPLAN functions as a planning proposal, lecture, and dramaturgical draft for a performance, inviting public review and further discussion. The work navigates through the AutoCAD planning software, the Kruunuvuori Oil Tank, and the regional planning processes shaping the Kruunuvuori waterfront area.

Bio

Working as a duo, Karvinen and Himma explore and combine issues and methods from architecture and the performing arts in their artistic practice.

Henriikka Himma is a performance artist, dramaturg, and writer. In her artistic work, Himma focuses especially on questions of spatial dramaturgy, and her works frequently feature themes of personal experience, architecture, and urban planning, as well as performance scripts written in an essayistic style.

Kaisa Karvinen is an architect, researcher, and curator working with exhibitions, texts, and performances. She approaches architecture as a material archive of society’s latent structures, which she analyses via artistic-architectural collaborations and autonomous institutions. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of Oulu, focusing on questions related to planning and land use.
