Teardrop is a new miniature piece by Anna Torkkel and working group. It is a dance that weeps for beginnings, sprouts, and apparitions, and a song mourning endings and destruction.

The performance is connected to the artists’ ongoing Kultasiipi (Goldwing) production and continues Torkkel’s long-term collaboration with designers Johanna Porola and Piia Rinne. Inspired by angels, deities, and other winged beings, the work approaches dance and dancing as a mediator and messenger operating at the threshold between layers of reality. In Teardrop, dance is a tear of sorrow and joy, it is a liquefied emotion in constant transformation.

The first sketch of the piece was presented as part of the Love Harvest art festival in Hämeenkyrö in August 2025.

Bio

For choreographer and dancer Anna Torkkel, dance is both an everyday and a wondrous activity, a form of play where the body's boundaries and textures shift and transform. For her, dance at its best is a space that constantly empties and fills, allowing for sensing and perception without questions. Torkkel has worked extensively with dancing to music. In her recent works, her choreographic practice has expanded to include dancing with light, costume, and, more broadly, with and supported by life.
